Mechanical and microstructural characterization of cement In the present paper, the mechanical properties and characterization of cement mortars are prepared by using waste foundry sand coming from Turkey steel manufacturer as partial replacement of natural sand were experimentally investigated and the possibility of using waste foundry sand (WFS) instead of natural sand in mortar has been determined.
Microstructural Characterization and Mechanical The material was characterized by Xray diffraction, optical microscopy, Vickers hardness and elastic modulus by impulse excitation. The results of the microstructural characterization showed the presence of the single phase, hardness equal to 207HV and the elastic modulus equal to 77GPa.
The microstructural assessment covers the measurement of the hardness and analyses of fractured surfaces as well as a comparison of the microstructure by optical microscopy. The results show that there is a positive effect of potassium-doped tungsten foils compared to pure tungsten foil and demonstrate the potential of the doped foil.
